inner court, courtyard Brienenhofje at Prinsengracht in Amsterdam

The Roman Catholic Brienen courtyard on Prinsengracht 89-133 was founded in 1804 and built in 1804/06. In 1806 the court was ready for occupancy. The gatehouse includes on the ground floor a porter's lodge and on the floor, a chapel and a regent room. The doorman supervises and regulates the daily business of the court. Between the porch and the right wing is the residents entrance. The courtyard consists of a large courtyard surrounded on three sides by little houses. In the middle a pipe with beautiful lantern. The women had to clean the homes of single men, but the men had to bring water. The courtyard provides housing to elderly Roman Catholic women, originally However men and couples. The residents were not exactly destitute, because they had to take care of the costs. Today rent must be paid.
